Local execs throw support to Arroyo

KORONADAL CITY -- Mindanao's 438 town and city vice mayors Monday reiterated their support to President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and at the same time urged other national leaders to put an end to the continuing political bickering in the country.

In a manifesto of support dated October 7, the Vice Mayor League of the Philippines' (VMLP)-Mindanao joined an earlier declaration made by VMLP Luzon, Visayas and its national executive officers in expressing their "unequivocal and strong support" to the President.

They also expressed support to the ongoing moves for the revision of the Constitution and a shift to "whatever form of government and type of republic, so as long as this will ensure political stability, economic upliftment for our people and generate unity and creativity among all the Filipinos and preserve our democracy."

Officials of VMLP-Mindanao presented the manifesto to Arroyo during its ongoing 2nd Mindanao Island Congress here.

The manifesto was signed by VMLP-Mindanao members and officials led by Tagum City Vice Mayor Allan Rellon, the VMLP Vice President for Mindanao, and Koronadal City Vice Mayor Jose Ledda Jr., the congress director.

VMLP National President and Mandaluyong City Vice Mayor Jesus Cruz attested it.

Arroyo, who made a brief appearance at the congress, expressed elation over the overwhelming support issued by the islands' vice mayors.

"Now we can focus on working together for the betterment of our country. With your support, I cam assure you that we can accomplish the task of mending our economy," Arroyo said in her brief message.
