Sarangani mason tops regional contest
ALABEL, Sarangani -- A mason from Malungon municipality will represent Region 12 in the December national "Galing Mason" competitions in Manila.
Nestor Balolo bested the field of 30 competing masons around the region to win first prize and P7,000 cash during the regional contest, according to the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda).
"As with earlier competitions in other trade areas, this particular event endeavored to showcase the local talents in the field of masonry while at the same time advocating the value of possessing blue-collar occupations among the people," Tesda said in a press statement.
Masons from all over Region 12 competed in the masonry skills competition on September 28-30 at barangay Talus, Malungon, Sarangani.
At the contest, the masons built the barangay training center and were judged according to the proper use of cement, work safety and ethics.
Second prizewinner was Ramil Orfinada of North Cotabato while Ernesto Malit of Malungon was third. (Sarangani Information Office)
