Mothballed resort hotel up for sale
GLAN, Sarangani -- A Dutch businessman is reportedly looking for buyers for his unfinished posh multi-million-peso hotel resort in this scenic coastal town, local officials said.
Mayor Enrique Yap Jr. told reporters last Saturday that Johans Kooring wanted to sell his prime property along Sarangani Bay.
An estimate of more than P100 million has already been poured for the development of the resort, which sits in an eight-hectare white-sand beachfront.
The two-story hotel boasts of at least 30-luxury rooms facing the Sarangani Bay.
Kooring, however, abandoned its completion following a row with local government officials in this town.
Two years ago, Kooring was declared persona non grata and was denied entry by the Bureau of Immigration and Deportation (BID) following a vacation from his native country.
The Municipal Board came up with the resolution after Kooring, who is married to a Filipina, allegedly would not like to follow provisions of the law causing differences with local officials, said Yap.
His spat with Glan mayor and members of the town's legislative body, has since been patched up.
"We learned that Kooring no longer wants to pursue his investment in the town and that he is looking for buyers of the property," Yap said.
For his part, Sarangani Governor Miguel Rene Dominguez said they are now threshing out the problem of "road right of way" with the residents around the resort so the project would not go down the drain.
Around 10 landowners leading to the resort earlier banned Kooring from using their property as the road towards the project site, said Dominguez.
Dominguez added that the provincial government is trying to convince the landowners to sell the lands of the roadway at P500 or below per square meter.
