Ugsad, Lorica win in SSBC special events

NESTOR "Jun" Ugsad, Jr. of NHU Trucking and Honorio "Nonoy" Lorica, Jr. of St. Elizabeth Hospital Rebels emerged as the best three-point shooter and best buzzer beater among the team managers of the Saturday-Sunday Basketball Club (SSBC) during the half-day special event held Sunday morning at the Oval Plaza covered court here.

Meantime, Mario Bascones of Exodus and Dodong Gambalan of Radicals dominated the regular player category of the three-point shooting and buzzer beater competitions, respectively.

SK, led by Chito Buagas and Allan Pragados, ruled in the team shootout contest that was also participated in by SEH Rebels, JBN, NHU Trucking, Exodus, Jigzpi, and Radicals.

In the All-Star game, the Blue (Dark) Team composed of the SEH Rebels, JBN, NHU Trucking and Exodus dumped the Yellow (Light) Team comprised of Jigzpi, SK and Radicals in a very convincing 115-69 victory.

The crossover quarterfinals would open Sunday at the Oval Plaza covered court with the top four teams enjoying a twice-to-beat advantage.

Third rank SK team would engage with the Radicals, the elim's number six squad, in the first game, while NHU Trucking, the fourth team, would take on the Exodus, the fifth squad, in the second assignment.

Elimination leader Jigzpi would tangle with Pajomac, the weakest team, while the No. 2 team SEH Rebels would tangle with the seventh finisher JBN next Saturday.

The best four teams that would survive the quarterfinal should go back to zero record and engage in a single round-robin semi-final.

The emerging top two teams would settle the conflict in a best-of-five championship series, while the third and fourth semifinalists would similarly engage in a best-of-five series for the second runner-up title.

Thirty-five years old is the minimum age limit of all players participating in the yearlong tournament that serves as a physical fitness and recreational activity of its members. (Arthur J. Tariman)
