Kalasag hopes to find way to animation world By Leonard V. Flores
GREASEART, a small graphics studio based in General Santos City, created the original character design "Kalasag".
Kalasag eventually garnered the top prize in the Original Character Design Competition conducted during the 2nd e-Business Week Celebration hosted by General Santos City.
"As the son of Ocavago, Lord of the equine species, possessing their strength, hooves and mane makes Kalasag indomitable and agile as a horse. He is armed with a tomahawk and the shield forged by the Gods," said Marthin Millado who conceptualized the design.
"It has been the dream of the Animation Council of the Philippines that aside from the Philippines being a major outsourcing destination of animation and creative works, it aims to have an original character truly associated with Filipino creativity would be the greatest achievement," explained ACPI board director Ludet Gopalan.
"Today, if we are just doing things great for Pixar, Walt Disney, Hannah Barbera, and other American and Japanese animation and graphics studios, it would be more rewarding if the Philippines will have to be recognized for a genuine Filipino creation," Gopalan further added.
