Web developers flood Soccsksargen
By Leonard V. Flores

"WEB development may be a craft that can be cultivated by any individual. But what Filipinos can offer is beyond the technology--with creativity and ingenuity, a congenital Filipino characteristics," declared Ludet Gopalan of Manila-based Navel Production.

Gupalan, also director of the Animation Council of the Philippines, was one of the judges during the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-organized Mindanao e-Competition 2005 sponsored by GlobeQuest, GlobeSolutions and Innove.

She was also a resource person during the 4th Mindanao Information Communication Technology (ICT) Congress held in General Santos.

"There are plenty of local talents in Soccsksargen region. Your number is coupled with apparent quality. Given more time, I am sure there will be more than 19 entries submitted in Web Design Category," Gopalan added.

Other e-Competition categories that were successfully conducted were Digital Graphics Designs, Digital Fine Arts, SMS Content Craze, and Original Character Design.

"What our pool needs is exposure. We just hope and pray that access to production studios and ICT companies will just be at our reach," enthused Chalmer Gevieso, also a judge representing the ICT sector.

Sonikhost and Arklink Technologies are web development service providers and hosting companies operating in General Santos City.

The presence of Nokiahost and other companies outside of Gensan were also felt in the region.

"We have freelance web developers and graphics designers in the region. But we need more industry players to be established in our locality. We need these talents to be maximized," explained DTI Gensan supervising director Doris Delima.
