Filipina housemaid in Kuwait 'rescued' from employer By Aquiles Zonio
THE family of an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who was maltreated by her employers in Kuwait was overjoyed upon learning she was already rescued.
The members of Cumahig family earlier asked for help from Radyo Agong here after Merlinda Cumahig Zuņiga told them through text messages she wanted to go home because her employer had been maltreating her.
Merlinda, who worked as a domestic helper, claimed she has become sickly because of lack of sleep.
She further said she was physically abused by her employer.
Merlinda has reportedly changed employers thrice since her arrival in Kuwait on November 26 last year.
Upon learning of her ordeal, Radyo Agong asked the intervention of Presidential Assistant for Mindanao Jess Dureza.
Dureza immediately contacted the OFW and her family.
After getting details, Dureza called up the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait and asked to do something to help Merlinda.
Dureza claimed he was informed by the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait a few days ago that Merlinda was already under its custody awaiting the schedule of her trip back home.
The Cumahig family told reporters that Merlinda sent a text message informing them she's already safe.
