P100M asphalt plant opens in Cotabato town

M'LANG, Cotabato -- A modern asphalt plant worth P100 million has recently opened in this town's Cotabato Agro-Industrial Park a 27-hectare economic zone designed to house light and medium industries.

Vice Governor Jesus Sacdalan last week said the asphalt plant would pave the way for the construction of paved roads in the province's 18 towns.

"We are optimistic the venture would result in enhanced trade activities between our towns and adjacent areas because the road networks will be considerably improved," he told a team from the National Economic Development Council monitoring developments in Central Mindanao region.

The asphalt or batching plant in Barangay Pag-asa is so far the only infrastructure in operational in the said the economic zone.

Sources said the Provincial Government is still trying to attract more locators to spur trade activities and increase employment opportunities.

Sacdalan said the Land Bank of the Philippines early this year approved the P100 million loan for the asphalt plant project.

The loan was signed between Cotabato Governor Emmanuel Piñol and then Land Bank of the Philippines President Margarito Teves who is now the finance secretary. (RBS)
