Christmas starts in GenSan By Aquiles Zonio
A MONTH-long "Paskuhan sa Gensan" celebration kicked off Friday afternoon with a bang. Eleven participants joined in the lantern parade and street dancing competition.
Local officials and spectators were delighted watching a spectacle of artistic lanterns showed off during the parade by various participants. Results of the competition have yet to be announced.
Other activities during the opening rites include festival of lights, Belen sa Gensan competitions, elimination round of the hataw sayawan sa paskuhan, opening of disco party zone and ceremonial lighting of the 65-foot Christmas tree at the Pioneers Avenue junction.
Mayor Pedro Acharon Jr. and wife Dr. Rose Acharon led the city officials in attending the opening ceremony.
The mayor said, the celebration dubbed "Pasko at bagong Taon Araw-araw", aims to boost tourism industry in the city.
His wife, who is also head of the celebration, said most if not all of the activities will be held at the Lion's Beach.
Residents here and from nearby places are encouraged to come and be a part of the colorful celebration.
Other activities lined up during the celebration are Tunog Pasko song writing contest, Panaygon sa baybayon, Krismas @ Home, K101 Krismas (rap jingle contest) and Christmas cantata at Campus Radio.
Misa de gallo festival, pamaskong biyaya ng rotary kay lolo at lola, Bay Radio's krismas, Paskong pambata alay ni Rep. Darlene Custodio, Campus Radio Video-k challenge, picnic pambata alay ng Lion's Club, Himig Pasko and Himig Gensan.
Libreng gupit alay ng taga-palengke, wet n wild krismas, kapamilya krismas, Jacees Inc. Krismas, Jollibee and Chowking Pasko ng Kabataan, Kainang pamasko, gabi ng pasasalamat, Gensan's New Year's countdown party and fireworks display.
Just like in previous paskuhan, krismas karnabal, krismas tiangge, krismas party zone, paskuhan sa palengke and GenTXT Park sa Lion's Beach remained part of the activities.
