Eliminations for oratorical, storytelling contest underway

THE elimination for the Socsksargen-wide oratorical and storytelling contest is underway, with the final round slated for July 2006 during South Cotabato's T'nalak festival.

The Sarangani leg of the elimination round was held last November 26 at the provincial capitol grounds in Alabel, in time for the province's Muna To Festival.

Eight high school students and seven elementary pupils, each representing the municipalities in Sarangani, vied for the oratorical and storytelling contests.

The contest, which is sponsored by DepEd Sarangani, Bombo-Gensan, Socsksargen Multi-Sectoral Coalition for Sustainable Mineral Development and Sagittarius Mines, Inc. is an annual event that aims to promote the concept of development partnership and responsible mining among the youth.

Elimination in Tacurong City and Sultan Kudarat province were already done last 16 September and 18 November, respectively. The elimination rounds for General Santos City, Koronadal City and South Cotabato are slated early next year. (Press release)
