City to buy 5-hectare relocation site

ANOTHER five-hectare land would be purchased by the General Santos City Government for the development of a new relocation site for homeless families.

According to Mary Anne Rubio, assistant head of the City Housing and Land Management Office (CHLMO), the area is located at Barangay Mabuhay.

On Thursday last week, the City Council approved on final reading of the resolution authorizing City Mayor Pedro Acharon Jr., to enter into a deed of absolute Sale with Demontano Foundation, Inc. for the purchase the said parcel of land, identified as Lot 788-A containing an area of 50,000 square meters, situated at Barangay Mabuhay.

The resolution was authored by city councilors Ramon Melliza, Shirlyn Banas-Nograles, Jose Orlando Acharon, and Minardo Avila Jr.

Rubio said the site is near the Promise Land (GK Village), a 5-hectare relocation site of the city, which was also purchased by the Acharon administration and is now inhabited by flood and fire victims from barangays Labangal and Calumpang.

She added that after the purchase of the new site, it would be developed by concerned government agencies in coordination with the private sector and NGOs like the Couples for Christ, Gawad Kalinga, and Habitat.

The new site could accommodate more than two hundred 200 UDHA beneficiaries already identified by the City Social Welfare and Development Office. (Press release)
