Mayor hands out security devices for villages
By Aquiles Zonio

TO STRENGTHEN security in the city down to the village level, Mayor Pedro Acharon Jr. distributed security equipment to 14 barangays here.

The security equipment is composed of wooden sticks, armor tear gas, whistle, and handcuff.

Acharon said the City Government aimed to tighten security measures even in the barangay level to fight off criminalities and terrorism.

Two hundred seventy sets of security equipment were given away to barangays Buayan, Olympog, Ligaya, Siguel, Batomelong, Tambler, Katangawan, Mabuhay, Conel, Baluan, Sinawal, Tinagacan, Upper Labay, and San Jose.

The mayor said the City Government also distributed 160 sets of the same security equipment to 12 barangays last year.

Acharon said P1.158 million was set aside for the purchase of security equipments.

He told barangay captains to inform the City Government whenever there are still members of the Civilian Volunteer's Organization (CVO) or Barangay Tanod who do not know how to use the security tools given.

According to the mayor appropriate training on how to handle security equipment could be provided by the law enforcement agencies.

Last month, around 200 CVO members underwent security training needed in efficiently carrying out their assigned tasks.

The distribution was held after the meeting of the City Development Council at the Family Country Hotel and Restaurant Wednesday last week.
