Soccsksargen execs to host luncheon for ATF delegates
LOCAL government units in Central Mindanao will take advantage of the weeklong Asean Tourism Forum (ATF) in Davao City, which kicked off January 13 by holding a special luncheon for the delegates on January 19 to showcase the region's best.
South Cotabato Governor Daisy Avance Fuentes, chairperson of the Regional Development Council, said the luncheon with the forum's local and foreign delegates is aimed at putting the region's tourism attraction in the global tourism map.
"The local government units are pooling our resources to this great chance to market our tourism potentials to industry leaders in the Asean region," she said.
Fuentes said the governments of South Cotabato, Sarangani, and General Santos agreed to jointly share the expenses in holding the special luncheon with Asean tourism players at the NCCC Mall in Davao City.
The local executives will bring along indigenous entertainers, among them the well acclaimed Kahayag Community Dance and Theater Company, to impress the delegates of the rich cultural heritage found in Central Mindanao.
About 600 foreign and domestic delegates are expected to attend the ATF summit that will run until January 21.
The ATF gathers the highest-ranking tourism officials and industry leaders of Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei Darussalam, Vietnam, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, and the Philippines.
Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte has earmarked over P20 million for the city's improvements and for other purposes that would ensure the success of the much-awaited affair.
Regional tourism officials have earlier identified the white sand beaches of Glan in Sarangani and scenic Lake Sebu town in South Cotabato as potential global tourism drawers within the cluster.
The promotion of the three sites as the region's banner destinations was initially endorsed by tourism stakeholders in last month's first ever, regional tourism summit held in this city.
