Felons take a day off to watch Manny

EVERYONE would have wished that everyday be a Manny Pacquiao fight day.
Not only because residents, including boxing fans around the globe, enjoyed Manny's recent drubbing of Mexico's Erik Morales but also because crime rate in the country dropped during the day.
City police director Alfredo Toroctocon said only two untoward incidents were reported in the city's seven police precincts last Sunday in time for the much-awaited Pacquiao-Morales rematch dubbed "The Battle."
One incident, Toroctocon said, involved a victim of stray bullet recorded at Tambler Police station and another was snatching incident reported at Pendatun Police precinct.
Almost everybody was glued to television sets watching the rematch between World Boxing Council Super Featherweight International champion Manny Pacquiao and three-time world champion Erik Morales.
Only few public utility vehicles went out to ply their usual routes and the streets were almost deserted.
Fast food stores, barbershops, and sports bars with cable televisions were only the ones packed with customers.
Even pickpockets, robbers, and snatchers took time off to watch the sensational Pacquiao-Morales fight.
Mayor Pedro Acharon Jr. said Pacquiao was a unifying factor for Filipinos.
Acharon said the Filipino ring icon, once again, made General Santos and the country proud.
The almost zero-crime rate during the day was just a bonus.
Acharon said the city is preparing for a hero's welcome in time for the homecoming of Pacquiao.
In March last year, the City Government warmly welcomed Pacquiao upon his return right after a heartbreaking defeat against Morales during their first encounter.
