SSBC kicks off
THE Saturday-Sunday Basketball Club (SSBC) kicked off this year's First Conferenc on April 26 at the Covered Court, Carlos Garcia Park (Oval Plaza) iun this city.
SSBC Outgoing President Nestor Ugsad Jr. said they invited City Mayor Pedro Acharon Jr. and Congresswoman Darlene Custodio to award the winners of last year's conference and to deliver brief speeches.
The Rebels team of St. Elizabeth Hospital owned Tony Boy Veneracion was the champion in last year's conference.
Jigspi, managed by Manuel Pilapil, was first runner-up, Ugsad's NHU Trucking was second runner-up, and SK under Chito Buagas was third runner-up.
The other participating teams in this year's first conference are the Exodus-Reunion (formerly Exodus-Aqua), JBN, Pajomac, and the Atendido Eye Specialist (formerly Radicals).
Following the opening ceremony, SSBC members elected new officers for the current year.
The tournament format would follow the two-round elimination stage.
In the first round, all teams would clash in a single round robin and in the second round, the eight teams would split into two brackets with team rank number 1 and 4 occupying Group A and team rank number 2 and 3 in Group B.
Team rank number 5 to 8 would draw lots to determine their respective group assignments.
Crossover games would happen during the quarterfinals with teams that will emerge, as number 1 and 2 in each bracket during the second round of the elimination would be enjoying a twice-to-beat advantage.
The four winning teams would enter the semifinals in single game placement duels. Losing teams would fight for the second runner-up slot, while the winning squad would tangle for the championship title in a sudden death encounter.
The tournament is open to sponsorship by prospective advertisers, announced Ugsad.
