5th Armm business gab starts
ITS all systems go for this week's 5th Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Armm) Business Congress in Lamitan, Basilan.
Hundreds of key leaders from the business community, regional government, non-government organizations, and donor countries are expected to participate in the congress themed "Sustaining Business and Industry Development in the Armm."
"The business congress is a vital link between the regional government and the business sector towards the implementation of programs and policies that are essential to socio-economic development," said Armm Governor Datu Zaldy Ampatuan.
Lamitan Mayor Roderick Furigay said he will push the tourism potentials of the town as well as convince investors to embark on seaweed and rubber production development.
Lamitan is the scene of a bloody encounter between government forces and the Abu Sayyaf Group several years back.
"We have really prepared for this big event. It is our chance to showcase what Lamitan has and prove wrong the perception that our place continue to be the lair of lawless elements. Our town is home to dynamic and peace-loving people, pristine beaches, and other scenic spots," said Furigay.
The congress will feature trade and product exhibits, business matching sessions, and plenary sessions on key economic and policy issues.
Basilan's flourishing rubber industry is expected to get an additional boost with the conduct of the business congress, Furigay said.
The Provincial Government of Basilan is positioning the province to become the "Rubber Capital" of the country.
