RP, Indonesia sign security pact
THE Philippines and Indonesia are strengthening cooperation to fight transnational crimes to include financial frauds and money laundering activities.
Central Mindanao police director German Doria said the agreement was signed by police authorities of the two neighboring countries.
Doria said the scope of cooperation covers kidnapping, human and drug trafficking, arms smuggling, forgery and terrorism.
The agreement, Doria explained will boost peace efforts and trade exchanges between the two countries.
"Under the agreement, the Philippine and Indonesian police forces are mandated to encourage and facilitate coordinating ideas, procedures, and specific information for the promotion of peace and order especially in Southern Philippines and East Kalimantan, Indonesia," he said.
It also covers respect for the principles of sovereignty, territorial Integrity, non-interference in internal affairs, equality and mutual benefit.
Both parties also agreed to share and strengthen intelligence integrity networks.
The Philippines and Indonesia are part of the larger sub-regional economic grouping called the Bimp-Eaga growth area. It also includes Brunei and Malaysia.
