Sarangani public high schools gear up for ‘knowledge economy’
ALABEL, Sarangani -- The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has installed computer laboratories in nine public high schools in Sarangani.
DTI also distributed 276 brand new computers under the Personal Computers for Public Schools Project (PCPS Project) launched by then DTI Secretary Mar Roxas, now a senator.
"This project is DTI's response to the compelling challenges posed by the fast-emerging knowledge economy," said Marlie Torres-Lacsao, trade and industry development specialist of DTI provincial office.
"It aims to enhance the IT (information technology) skills of Filipino youth as the country's future knowledge workers and promote IT culture in Philippine classrooms as an avenue to develop Filipino's skills to be at par with global standards," Lacsao said.
Lacsao said that aside from the provision of personal computers, public high school teachers were trained to use computer technology "as a tool for teaching and learning, and on basic PC operations, trouble shooting, and preventive maintenance."
The PCPS project was implemented under the auspices of the Government of Japan, DTI, and departments of Finance, Education, and Science and Technology.
All of Sarangani's 21 regular public high schools benefited from the project funded by the Japanese government.
In addition, the municipalities of Malungon and Malapatan received computer-servers and workstations installed with application systems for real property tax assessment and billing, business permits and licensing, and treasury operations and management. (Sarangani Information Office)
