Tuna Cup kicks off
THE eight-day Gensan Tuna Cup featuring five teams that will vie for the title kicked off Saturday at the Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage (OLPGV) Parish Center.
The tournament is sponsored by the Socsksargen Basketball League (SBL).
The five-team competition serves as pre-tournament games for the SBL 2nd Conference-Double D Cup Commercial Basketball Tournament which will open on September 16.
Slated to join in the tournament are the St. Elizabeth Hospital's "Rebels", East Asia Royale Hotel's "Royals", i-Cloud Company, Sarangani Agricultural Company, Incorporated's "Sarangani Migs" and the Saturday-Sunday Basketball Club's "Bweno" team.
The line up of the Rebels, Royals and Sarangani Migs would include their newly-acquired players, while the reinvigorated i-Cloud Company under Nestor Mercado will have its debut in the Gensan Tuna Cup.
Bweno, owned by Chito Buagas, will be reinforced with younger and faster players to effectively compete with the SBL member-teams.
Elimination games would be played on single round-robin system on August 26, 28, 30, 31 and September 2.
The runner-up and the championship series that would be played in best-of-three format are scheduled on September 6, 7 and 8. (Arthur J. Tariman)
