Rebollido: A pity
By Rommel G. Rebollido

THEY never worry about having to look for jobs in order to earn money and be able to pay ever rising cost of fuel, electricity and food.

They live in shelters comfortable to their standards to protect them from the rain and the elements and they do not have to pay rents or housing loans for that.

Arroyo Watch: Sun.Star blog on President Arroyo

They do not have to fret about what they will have for lunch or dinner. Food and water are always available without having to pay for it.

To stay fit and healthy, they freely roam around, enjoy sunshine while walking or stretching their legs.

They even have sex anywhere, anytime they want to and not be bothered of being arrested for doing the act in public. They do the act without having to be anxious about marriage vows, proper birth spacing to avoid large families and more mouths to feed.

These mammals will never know about discrimination, corruption or checkpoint soldiers dependent on fish haulers and cargo vehicles nor will they ever understand how it is to live in a place wracked with political bickering and conflict among people.

How lucky they could get, these goats. Yes Andy, goats they are indeed, but, not the type produced in the military academy that at times turns out to become the unexpected.

If you ask me Andy, I don't and won't envy these creatures even as most of them live a life far better than those people who turn the sidewalks into their bedrooms and even restrooms.

In fact, these beings which are also referred to as Capra hircus are care and valued more than some humans, especially the newsmen whose dear lives is now likened to that of the chicken.

Goat, said to be the most useful of domesticated animals, has been around since the Biblical time, producing milk, cheese, meat and leather.

My friend Andy would know another use of the animal, the "goat's eye" which he recommends to the limps who can hardly afford the expensive Viagra. Better ask my pal how that hairy goat thingamajig works.

Whatever result you could get out of it, still I cannot envy the animal that has been used as a tool of sorts by the unscrupulous whose desire was to pocket the money intended for the needy.

Ever heard those so called dispersal programs? The unscrupulous find the goat as willing (Did they ask the goat about this?) and ready subject that could justify expense. Who would care go around to check and count the goats, anyway?

Those tasked to account the animals would just prefer the goat hot on the platter and disperse it into their rapacious digestive system.

Pity the goats? Perhaps, but, still I cannot envy them. Goats do not have to work hard to earn money to pay for comfort and recreation, but they can only be what they are - animals.

They may have animal rights, but, can they raise a howl of protest against those that trample on these rights and whimsically use them for vested interests?

I would say that we humans are far fortunate than goats or other animals, after all we were made to be the superior kind. Unlike goats, humans were given brains which they use to achieve almost unlimited results.

Wonder not. Is it not that man was made to the likings of the Almighty? As such, man, unlike goats, can achieve so many things, stepping on each others toes and even heads just to gain power, money and luxury.

Humans talk about public service, but, obviously care less about the sufferings of others.

They talk of peace, but, prefer to build walls so high around them. They talk of unity, yet they opt to just use the term to prop up a good image for themselves. These and a lot more has been done by man, but, cannot be achieved by goats.

Pity the goats.
