Arroyo doles out cash for bombing victims

PRESIDENT Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo offered her sympathy and extended financial assistance Thursday to the victims of the Tuesday bomb attacks in Tacurong City in Sultan Kudarat and Makilala town in Cotabato province last week.

The president sent Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte to Tacurong City and Makilala Thursday afternoon to deliver some P420,000 worth of financial assistance to the victims and their families.

"The President greatly feels your sufferings. Rest assured that the government is doing everything to track down and neutralize these perpetrators and prevent these terror activities from happening again," said Duterte, who is also a presidential adviser on counter-terrorism.

The families of the six fatalities in the Makilala blast received P20,000 each while the recorded 26 injured in Makilala and the four in Tacurong City were each given P10,000.

The financial assistance from the president was on top of the commitment of Tacurong City and Makilala local governments to shoulder all medical expenses of the victims.
