Palace funds P500 million Armm infra projects

SHARIFF AGUAK, Maguindanao -- Malacañang has poured another P500 million for infrastructure development in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Armm) this year, regional executives said last week.

Armm Governor Zaldy Ampatuan said the amount is on top of the region's annual regional budget.

"President Arroyo is concerned over the development of our region so she extended the amount out of her office budget," Ampatuan said.

In September, the House committee on appropriations approved proposed the P8.9-billion 2007 budget of Armm.

The approved budget is already eight percent higher than the present budget of the region.

Department of Public Works and Highways-Armm Secretary Rasul Abpi said they are currently implementing the P500 million additional fund to enhance infrastructure development in line with regional economic agenda.

One of the major projects being pursued in autonomous Muslim region is potable water system.

The P500 million fund from the President is distributed among the five provinces namely Maguindanao, Lanao del Sur, Sulu, Basilan Tawi-tawi and the city of Marawi for other infrastructure projects like school buildings, flood control system, public markets and farm-to-market roads, Abpi added.
