S. Cotabato surpasses revenue collection target by 9%

South Cotabato Governor Daisy Avance Fuentes also boasted that the figure only covers collections for the first 10 months of 2006 ending October.

"The increased collection was due to the implementation of the general revisions on the assessed value of real properties by the provincial and municipal assessor's office," she said.

The top three of the provinces 10 municipalities with the highest collection efficiency were T'boli, Tampakan, and Polomolok.

T'boli hosts small-scale mining ventures and banana plantations.

Tampakan has a huge mining venture pursued by Sagittarius Mines Inc. while and Polomolok is where Dole Philippines Inc. operates its pineapple and other tropical fruit plantations.

Fuentes said that with their positive accomplishment in last year's tax collection, the province is hopeful to again receive the highest award in real property tax collection for 2006 in Central Mindanao region. (BSS)
