Wednesday, July 18, 2007 Sarangani to open 'Otop Drive Thru'
ALABEL, Sarangani -- The opening of a drive thru outlet in Malungon for One Town One Product (Otop) items made in Sarangani would cater to motorists plying the General Santos City-Davao City highway in the coming days.
A trade official said the "Otop Drive Thru, a Pasalubong Center, will highlight the banner product of Malungon, the Sarangani Golden Mango."
Nenita Barroso, trade and industry provincial director said the pasalubong center would also sell "the respective priority products of other municipalities in the province."
The Drive Thru project is located at sitio Rancho in Barangay Nagpan. It would have a deli, café‚ and fruit stand too.
The launching of Otop Drive Thru on July 27 is timed with the celebration of Uswag Sarangani 2007 on July 16-31.
Uswag Sarangani (meaning United towards a Strong, Wealthy And Globally competitive Sarangani) is the local and expanded version of the nationally-mandated Small and
Medium Enterprise Development (Smed) Week slated every third week of July.
"Uswag is a mechanism in mustering the efforts of the SMEs, local government units, and concerned national government agencies towards SME promotion and development," Barroso said.
Uswag also serves as venue for advocating policies and converging initiatives to support SMEs in Sarangani.
Major Uswag events beginning Monday (July 16) are:
* "Business Talks, Usapang Negosyo," a no holds-barred discussion on SME development initiatives and milestones at Capitol main building.
* "One Town One Product Forum and Workshop" to update the status of the program and other OTOP plans at Isla Parilla Resort (July 17).
* "Businessmen's Forum-Workshop" at Isla Parilla Resort (July 31) where the Sarangani Chamber of Commerce and Industry Foundation, Inc. would converge to discuss pressing issues in doing business and promoting investments in the province.
The theme of Uswag Sarangani this year is "Ang Galing Mo Pinoy, Go Negosyo" to provide impetus and needed boost to SME development initiatives in the province.
