GENERAL SANTOS CITY -- At least 200 school buildings worth P100 million will be constructed in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Armm) as the regional government strives to uplift worsening poverty conditions in the area.
Armm Governor Datu Zaldy U. Ampatuan said that priority infrastructure projects for the region include construction of school buildings, which was allocated with P100 million.
"We are building 200 school buildings to address the increasing number of students and improve our educational facilities," the governor announced recently.
The regional government and the local governments units (LGUs) in Armm have signed a memorandum of agreement last week to facilitate the implementation of the priority infrastructure projects.
The provinces of Maguindanao, Shariff Kabunsuan, Lanao del Sur, Basilan Sulu and Tawi-Tawi and Marawi City comprise the autonomous region.
Ampatuan said the memorandum of agreement (MOA) seeks to improve governance and the empowerment at the local level through relegation of responsibilities.
One of these tacks involved the granting of authority to the local government of Lamitan City in Basilan to manage the local port there, the governor said.
Frances Cynthia G. Sayadi, Armm solicitor general, said the LGUs would be given 15% initial fund to mobilize the priority infrastructure projects programmed under the region's 2008 General Appropriations Act. (BSS)
