KIDAPAWAN CITY -- A barangay captain of a remote town in North Cotabato was seriously injured when he was ambushed by at least five unidentified armed men around 6:30 a.m. Thursday.
Carmen Philippine National Police (PNP) identified the victim as Abdulatip Kadingilan, chair of Kibayao village in Carmen, who sustained gunshot wounds in different parts of his body.
Police said that Kadingilan was onboard his Toyota Hilux pick-up when waylaid by the suspects, armed with high-powered firearms, at Barangay Kibayao, some 100 meters away from the headquarters of the 602nd Brigade and about half a kilometer away from the Carmen-Bukidnon highway.
The attackers, onboard two separate motorcycles, fled to unknown direction, according to Carmen police.
Villagers who heard the gunshots rushed to the site and saw Kadingilan oozed with blood. They rushed the victim to a hospital in Kabacan, North Cotabato.
