San Agustin bags crown in BLS/CPR contest
|
THE University of San Agustin Iloilo nursing and ROTC teams were declared champions in the recent Basic Life Support/CardioPulmonary Resuscitation (BLS/CPR) competition. The contest, organized by the Regional Disaster Coordinating Council 6 (RDCC-6) and the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) was part of the July Disaster Consciousness Month celebration.
The University of San Agustin nursing team bested four other contenders coming from other nursing schools in Iloilo City, namely the Central Philippine University, St. Paul's College, University of Iloilo and West Visayas State University.
The West Visayas State University Hospital staff bested the staff of the Iloilo Mission Hospital in the Hospital Group category.
In the ROTC Group category, the University of San Agustin team won, followed by the West Visayas State University, Western Institute of Technology, University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos and Saint Anthony College-Antique in that descending order.
On the other hand, in the Rescue Group category, the TOG-6 Team A dominated the category while the Municipal Disaster Coordinating Council team of the municipality of Pavia ended in third place.
The awarding ceremony of the competition, which was held in the afternoon was graced by National Anti-Poverty Commission Sectoral (Victims of Calamities and Disaster) Representative James Sian.
The event aims to enhance and instill in the minds of participants and audience the importance of knowledge and skills in Basic Life Support, Artificial Respiration, Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation, and Trauma Transfer Handling during times of calamities and disasters. (PIA)
