Palabrica denies implicating NPA in attack
By Jay Dooma Balnig

SAN Enrique Mayor Zafiro Palabrica denied earlier this week reports that he implicated the New People's Army in the strafing of the house of barangay chief Wilfredo Baldonado of Barangay Bantayan, San Enrique.

This came after Col. Romeo Tinagan of the Task Force Panay quoted Palabrica as having blamed the NPA for the attack.

Palabrica clarified that he did not issue any statement pinning the blame on the rebels, which have been reported to be operating in the area.

Instead, he said the residents of the barangay were the ones who accused the rebels of the strafing.

Furthermore, he belied Tinagan's statement that the strafing was politically-motivated. Baldonado is said to be identified with former San Enrique mayor Jose Fernandez.

Earlier, Tinagan defended Pfc. Johnson Viaje, who was accused by Baldonado of peppering his house with bullets from his M16 armalite rifle.

Tinagan said Viaje could not have strafed the house of Baldonado, as he was in Antique at the time of the shooting.

Baldonado himself admitted that he did not see who fired at his house about two weeks ago.

Despite this, he blamed Viaje, since they quarreled days before the strafing.
