Town councilor threatens stude with grenade? By Ruby P. Silubrico
A STUDENT at the Central Philippine University (CPU) has complained before the Iloilo City police against a Pototan municipal councilor for allegedly threatening him.
CPU student James Eduard Sioshi said that he saw Pototan Councilor Domingo Polmones, 25, staring at him sharply while holding a grenade. The incident happened on Lopez Jaena St. in Jaro last Wednesday night.
When the police arrived, witnesses alleged, Polmones threw the grenade, an HG MK-2 fragmentation grenade, into a nearby canal.
After the interrogation, the Jaro police, however, released Polmones, since the grenade was not recovered from his possession.
For now, the police are waiting for Siochi to formally testify that he really saw Polmones holding the recovered grenade.
A source said Polmones has a pending warrant of arrest after he was charged for maltreating a certain Ariel Dago in Pototan.
He allegedly pistol-whipped Dago for not failing to address him as "SB," prompting the latter to file charges. Subsequently, a warrant of arrest was issued against Polmones.
At around 9:45 p.m., Siochi recalled, he passed by a store on his way home where a group of teenagers are drinking. One of them, he said, was Polmones.
The group invited him, but he refused because he had an appointment elsewhere, said Siochi.
Later when he went to the store to buy cigarettes, he saw Polmones standing in a nearby store holding a grenade and staring sharply at him.
Siochi immediately called the Jaro policeto verify whether the grenade was real or just a toy meant to scare him.
When the Jaro police responded, Polmones allegedly threw the grenade into the canal. (Jan. 31, 2003 issue) |
