Dila-Ambong literary tour in Iloilo City today

THE literary caravan of West Visayan poets, which started its three-province tour in Antique last Tuesday, will perform and read today, February 14, their literary works revolving around the theme of love.

The caravan poets will be at the University of the Philippines in the Visayas, Miagao, in the morning and will then proceed to read/perform at the conference room of the University of San Agustin at 3:00 p.m.

Dubbed "Dila-Ambong: Reading/Performance Tour of Western Visayan Literature" this project of the Ilonggo Literature Archive (ILA) Inc. and the Division of Humanities, UPV, is part of the activities of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts' (NCCA) celebration of the Arts Month which was launched February 1, 2003 in Quezon City Plaza.

Iloilo's towering literary figure, Dr. Leoncio P. Deriada, together with Dr. Ma. Zenaida B. French, regional coordinator for the National Committee for Literary Arts (NCLA), is leading these caravan writers/poets.

There will be reading and performances at UPV while Dr. French will give a lecture on "The Contemporary WV Poets" followed by literary readings and performances at the University of San Agustin.

The caravan will proceed to La Consolacion College-Bacolod City on February 21 with a lecture by Prof. Alice Tan-Gonzales on "The Contemporary Hiligaynon Fiction" followed by poets' readings and performances.

The group of writers/poets include established and young writers of Western Visayas who have garnered awards in the Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature, Cultural Center of the Philippines Writing Grants, Home Life Literary Contests, and other prestigious literary contests conducted in English, Filipino, Hiligaynon, Kiniray-a and Aklanon.

The writers include: Prof. Alice Tan-Gonzales, Peter Solis Nery, Melecio Turao, Atty. Rodolfo "Boy" Cabado; Alex delos Santos; John Barrios, Evee V. Huervana, Melchor Cichon, Felino S. Garcia; and John Iremil Teodoro. Other guest writers/poets will also join and read their works.
This presentation is open to the public and all are invited to attend.

The WV literary caravan is undertaken in cooperation with the Arts Council of Iloilo Foundation, Inc. (ACIFI), Fray Luis de Leon Creative Writing Desk of the University of San Agustin, St. Anthony's College and La Consolacion College-Bacolod. (Evee V. Huervana)
