The true essence of Valentines Day By Janilyn Cam
VALENTINES day is here and the people are getting busy for gifts and surprises for their loved ones. Some may even be busy looking for love ones, too.
Whatever they're doing, one thing remains unclear to many - the real essence of Valentines Day. Why don't we look around and see people begging for food, to see the street children suffering from hunger and abuse?
To love unconditionally, is to love someone we don't know, we don't owe something. This writer does not mean to be too idealistic, but let's put it this way - while some people are having fun, others are begging for food not to mention that some are homeless.
To celebrate Valentines Day is to share, to love and to forgive. Sharing is a hard thing. To give what you have especially something that you cherish like a nice looking dress for example, is not so easy to do.
To share the laughter and joy is something that a heart will treasure forever. To love is to appreciate the goodness God has given us. For all the blessings that He gave especially the people that are here in this world who are meant to love us and for us to love.
Apart from sharing, love is forgiving. To forgive is to accept that nobody is perfect. We can decide to go loving and forgiving and if we do, we will have all the happiness in our heart for it is rid of hatred and sorrows.
What this writer is saying may be so simple, so easy to say. But with contentment, and help from God, it is quite easy.
Valentines Day does not exist just for lovers. It isn't made for just two people. Valentines Day is intended for everybody - for families, friends, colleagues and any other relationship there is.
Each of us has his or her own definition of Valentines Day, just like we view love and life in our own unique way. Valentine does not end within a day or a week, but it exists each day as we show love, compassion and it should be for a lifetime.
We celebrate Valentine's day, because we live and to live is to love and to love is to appreciate and to appreciate is to celebrate.
No particular time, no particular date, no particular reason, but there is a particular celebration.
We may have different ways of celebrating and showing our love but one thing is sure - Valentines Day is celebrated with joy in each heart. Happy Valentines Day!
