Q motel killing suspect charged
By Jay Dooma Balnig

THE suspect in the death of a 22-year-old lady in The Q Drive motel in LaPaz, was formally charged Monday before the Iloilo Prosecutor's Office.

Charged with murder was Peter Mijares of Barangay Bagacay, Pototan.

The complainant in the complaint is Enriquito Paniza, father of 22-year-old flight stewardess graduate Monyeen.

The filing of the complaint came after several witnesses came out and executed affidavits pinning Mijares to be behind Paniza's death.

The corpse of Paniza was found by a roomboy of the motel last Friday morning, after a couple complained of foul odor inside room 135.

Dried spermatozoa were found by forensic specialists in the vagina of Paniza. This led police to surmise that Paniza may have been been raped first, before she was killed.

Mervyn Rosento, a roomboy of the motel roomboy stated in his affidavit that he is the one who accomodated two persons-a male and a female-on board an owner-type jeep when they checked in at rm. 135 of the motel at around 10 p.m.last April 8.

He recognized the female to be Paniza, while the male was Peter Mijares.

Mijares, Rosento further narrated, was the one who paid for their room rent.

Also, two trisikad drivers playing the area recalled seeing Paniza waiting in a shed along Jereos St., LaPaz, near the LaPaz public plaza.

Several minutes, an owner-type jeep pulled over in front of Paniza, after which she boarded the vehicle.

Both then went inside the motel.

During an interview with Asst. City Prosecutor Nora Causing Espa¤ola, Mijares denied knowing Paniza.

However, another witness rebutted Mijares' allegation, saying that it is impossible that the suspect and victim are not familiar with each other since they used to be classmates at the Iloilo State College of Fisheries in Barangay Tiwi, Btac. Nuevo.

According to Enriquito, the victm's father, Monyeen left their house April 8, 2003. They were to go to Iloilo City, along with her friend.

Gloria Sabidalas, Monyeen's best friend, narrated in her affidavit that she and Monyeen met at the public plaza of Barotac Nuevo.

At around 9:15 a.m. of that day, they left for Iloilo City.

They separated ways after arriving in Jaro Plaza.

Sabidalas said that Monyeen was to meet somebody, who will help her land a job with an inter-island cruise ship, in LaPaz plaza.

She kept on sending text messages to Monyeen, but got no response.

Only then did she heard over the radio Friday last week that a corpse, the description of which fits Monyeen, was found inside the motel.

She then went to Porras Funeral Parlor, also in LaPaz to check the corpse.

There, she confirmed that it was indeed her friend Monyeen. With reports from Leo Solinap
