City squatters demolition set Monday By Jay Dooma Balnig
THE implementation of Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Order 52 might be implemented Monday after a week of "ample" period of abeyance.
This, after Mayor Jerry Treņas asked for the temporary suspension of execution from DPWH Secretary Bayani Fernando to defer the April 14 demolition of illegal structures along J.M. Basa Street, Port San Pedro, Duran and Concepcion, all in City Proper area.
Hundreds of kiosk, houses and other structures along the roadside of the area are the targets of the demolition.
Treņas asked Fernando to temporarily suspend the demolition while the Lenten season is past approaching.
Next on the demolition list are the 600 squatters along Diversion road, who earlier lost their legal battle after the court denied granting the temporary restraining order they requested from the Regional Trial Court (RTC).
In the recent visit of Bayani, the secretary said that he is serious in implementing the DPWH Order 52 stating that they are now in the process of clearing the city's national highways from all kinds of obstructions.
Fernando denied the report that the implementation will be suspended for the meantime.
