Mr., Ms. CPU talents night features song, dance
By Kathy M. Villalon

THE Mr. and Ms. CPU Talents Night held at the Rose Memorial of the Central Philippine University last September 1 was a festival of song, dance and sense of humor.

Ms. Medicine, Chimney Rose Dichoson belted out musical excerpts from several Broadway plays while her counterpart Mr. Medicine, Kenneth George Alerta, did a character interpretation of Marc Anthony.

Alerta's speech dwelt on the merits of Caesar as well as Brutus of the Roman Empire.

Both representatives from the College of Medicine dressed the part: Dichoson in a cap and beige trench coat embellished with patches of different colors while Alerta was splendid in a Roman dress.

Ms. Computer Studies, Jerosalem Naman presented a quite seductive Latin dance in her silver dress. She was a local Jennifer Lopez in the making, while Mr. Computer Studies, Joash Roy Presado did well in a ballroom dancing piece with a partner.

Ms. Commerce, Angeli Portillo was splendid in her red Spanish dress when she gave a rendition of the Flamenco, Spain's national dance. Mr. Commerce, Darren Dela seems to be popular among the ladies, when ooohs and aaahs were heard when he sang a la Gary Valenciano. Many must have been disappointed when his girlfriend showed up onstage and Dela's eyes were focused on her alone. He gave her a teddy bear and a rose while singing for her. They make a handsome pair.

Ms. Education, Mae Christel Go and Mr. Education, Charles William Tan have been caught by the amazing F4 bug which was reflected in their song numbers. Go sang Broken Vow while Tan played the organ and sang the Meteor Garden theme, Oh Baby. Both musical talents were exemplary.

Ms. Arts and Sciences, Jowelie Docdocil brought the audience to a guffaw with her smart antics. Her declamation piece showed how she can sound and act and even look) like a dog and a rooster. Docdocil, in her piece said that she also wanted to be a model, but when she was asked to avoid sweets, she decided that modeling is not for her. Her piece also showed how well she can do karate, in a sexy dress. Mr. Arts and Sciences, Christian Tatoy showed that he is an artist when he drew an illustration of Mother and Child while he sang Gary Valenciano's Warrior is a Child.

Ms. High School, Charisse Grace Somes was very graceful when she did what seems to be a version of Thailand's famous finger dance. Or was it our Muslim dance. Her sense of balance was also noted as she balanced a glass with liquid inside it and she didn't have to move stiffly to make sure it doesn't spill. Mr. High School, Matthew Elmo Suarez brought laughter to the audience when he dubbed and danced to Mr. Suave. He had this moustache that curled upwards to his cheeks and was dressed like a local Charlie Chaplin without the jacket. He had three human props with him, armed with maps and the famous moustache, who danced while he sang this record-breaking song by Parokya ni Edgar.

Ms. Engineering, Sheena Caburog was like a walking commercial. She had the ability to stir the audience's interest as well as laughter as she narrated things about men. In the process, she mentioned almost every famous line in leading commercials these days. Products she incidentally endorsed in her piece were Palmolive Naturals (KC's I've come of age), Axe and Rexona, Caltrate, among others. Mr. Engineering, Manuelito del Castillo, Jr. gave a narration regarding a woman who is applying as a secretary.

In a funny way, he related how the boss gives the secretary so much attention and favoritism, until the time came that she started to become absent in her job due to headaches. Months later, he terminated her because she got pregnant. All you dirty minded jocks out there might be thinking ... hmmm, the boss and the secretary? You're right on track. But del Castillo's story ended with the woman marrying someone else and the husband wondering if the child is really his.

Not a funny note to end this article with, right?

But hey, the Search for Mr. and Ms. CPU is quite an interesting and lovely pageant. You'll get the chance to see the grand finals tonight
at 6 in the evening at the Rose Memorial of CPU. So, see you there.
