Torres justifies absence at Guimbal political gathering
BUSINESSMAN Jaime Torres said Wednesday night there was no need
for him to appear at 1st District Rep. Oscar Garin's political gathering in Guimbal last Tuesday as he and the congressman have not yet sealed their partnership for the 2004 elections.
"We have nothing to announce yet regarding our agreement so it was premature for me to attend. There's nothing concrete yet between us," Torres, 1st District chairman of Lakas-CMD, said in an interview with Aksyon Radyo Iloilo Wednesday night.
Torres has vowed to support Garin's candidacy for the top Capitol post in exchange for the solon's backing for his congressional bid.
Until now, however, the two, who are erstwhile archrivals in the 1st District, are yet to formalize their coalition.
Although was mum on speculations that his relationship with Garin has gone sour, he admitted that he has been talking about "politics and possibilities" with Gov. Neil Tupas Sr.
He said, however, that the meetings do "not necessarily" mean that he is already supporting Tupas.
Torres pointed out that he and Garin continue to "explore" their "respective options."
"(If we have already determined) what's good for him and for me, that's when we will finally agree, he added.
