Students hands off USA union-admin row By Ronilo Ladrido Pamonag
STUDENTS of the University of San Agustin (USA) are keeping their hands off the deadlock between the USA Employees Union and the administration in the negotiations for the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
"We will be staying neutral because we don't want to be bias," said USA Student Council president Christopher Rhett Alger as he clarified though that they are aware and "vigilant" of the issues.
"But we can do nothing about it," he quickly said.
For now, they will have to conduct consultations with student leaders and remain 'vigilant,' he added. He said that they are still waiting for the administration to meet with them.
Wednesday this week, the union conducted a strike vote.
Majority of the union members voted in favor of holding a strike against the school administration following a deadlock in the CBA negotiations.
A total of 336 union members said they want to hold a strike while only 69 said otherwise.
For now, Alger observed, the students are not yet directly affect.
"But, I know that the students will eventually be affected," he stressed.
But, he said that they might not remain neutral.
And if the time comes that they need to take a stand, the student body will take sides, Alger said.
