Another improvised bomb found in Miag-ao
By By Ruby P. Silubrico

MIAG-AO Mayor Gerardo Flores has directed the town police to intensify security operations in the municipal building in the wake of another bomb scare in the town last Friday.

Police said they are now conducting strict inspection on every person entering the premises to ensure public safety.

The improvised bomb, placed inside a white plastic bag, was found at around 6:20 p.m. inside the cooperative office.

In a radio interview, Flores said that before the bomb was found, there was brownout. After which an employee at the rural health office received a call from an unidentified male caller who said that a bomb was planted inside the municipal hall.

Made out of a cellular phone, the explosive had several wirings. It was carefully taped using a yellow sticker bearing the name of 1st District Rep. Oscar Garin.

Operatives of the Iloilo Provincial Police Office's Explosives and Ordnance Division led by Senior Insp. Leroy Rapiz retrieved the explosive.

Those who remained at the building when the bomb was found were personnel of the Commission on Elections who were conducting registration and validation of voters.

This was the second improvised bomb being found inside the municipal building. The first was last Sept. 27.

At around 10:15 a.m. that day, rural health physician Dr. Lucia Naluis received a call from a certain Capt. Dela Cruz who informed her that a bomb has been planted inside the municipal building.

On last Friday's incident, the police has yet to determine how the bomb was made and the extend of damage it would have caused in case it exploded.

Although the police believe the bomb was only aimed to scare people, they are investigating the use of Garin's sticker as a seal for the bomb.
