Tupas says Tirador still uncertain
ILOILO GOV. Niel Tupas Sr. said Monday that former 3rd District Rep. Licurgo "Curging" Tirador is still uncertain if he will push through with his plan to join the gubernatorial race in the 2004 elections.
Tupas said that Tirador, who was considered as his possible running mate, actually encouraged him to scout for another vice gubernatorial candidate since he (Tirador) already wants to retire from politics to spend his time farming.
The governor earlier confessed that should Tirador decide to run against him, this would seriously affect his chances for a second term.
Although Tupas considers Tirador and 1st District Rep. Oscar Garin as formidable opponents, he is still optimistic that he will emerge victorious in his reelection bid.
Garin earlier welcomed Tirador's entry in the gubernatorial race, saying he is a worthy opponent.
The congressman said a three or four-cornered fight is good for the gubernatorial race so that the issues will not only be confined between him and Tupas.
Both Tupas and Garin worked with Tirador in the House of Representatives.
Garin, however, remained after Tupas' and Tirador's termed expired in 1998.
