ICCHS clobbers Santa Maria, 99-45
DEFENDING champion Iloilo Central Commercial High School (ICCHS) clobbered
Santa Maria Catholic School, 99-45, to stay unbeaten and enter the finals of
this year's Iloilo Prisaa Basketball Tournament.
It was a very highly-energized game for the defending champs as they were
leading right from the tip-off of the game and never let their guards down.
A diehard fan said the ICCHS players were very inspired to play because of the
unanimous decision of the Iloilo Prisaa 2003 Eligibility Committee in forfeiting the game - between archrivals ICCHS and Sun Yat Sen on Nov. 20 - in
favor of the defending champion ICCHS.
The controversy started when Sun Yat Sen High School, in their bid to avenge
their 146-point loss to archrival and defending champion ICCHS in last year's
Iloilo Prisaa Basketball Tournament, suited up their latest and tallest
recruit, towering 6'3" Raffy Ynion, against ICCHS on Nov. 20.
Later, the ICCHS officials discovered that Ynion was not eligible to play
because Sun Yat Sen submitted a different set of records to the Iloilo Prisaa
organizers.
It was learned that he was originally enrolled as a senior student at Antique
Vocational School in Bugasong, Antique and only transferred to Sun Yat Sen High School on Sept. 1.
In the records submitted by Sun Yat Sen to the Iloilo Prisaa Eligibility
Committee, it was indicated that Ynion was enrolled as a junior student last
June.
But on Nov. 21, the 2003 Iloilo Prisaa Eligibility Committee received a
certification duly signed by Ms Fe. T. Duazo, principal of Antique Vocational
School, certifying that Ynion was enrolled in their school last June and only
transferred to Sun Yat Sen last Sept. 1.
