Ganzon's wife, doc charged with murder
By Jay Dooma Balnig

THE children of the late Sen. Rodolfo "Roding" Ganzon filed murder charges Monday against their stepmother and their father's attending physician in connection with Ganzon's death last October.

Nine of the 10 children of Ganzon sued Rona Anape-Ganzon and Dr. Ricardo Portigo for allegedly being responsible for the death of their father by refusing to put the late senator into dialysis during his confinement at the St. Paul's Hospital in Iloilo City.

Case information filed before the Iloilo City Prosecutor's Office showed the complainants are Marigold Ganzon Lapascua, Rochelle Mercader, Rodolfo Ganzon Jr., Royal Ganzon, Freeman Ganzon, Denfield Ganzon, Marjorie Ganzon, Beverly Ganzon and Rolin Ganzon.

They named "Rona Anape" as respondent, not "Rona Ganzon" to support their claim that the late senetor and Rona were not legally married.

Their legal battle for the annulment of the marriage between their father and Rona are still pending in court.

In their complaint, they claimed it is Anape and Portigo who decided to abort the plan of administering dialysis on their father which, according to them, caused his immediate death.

In a three-page complaint-affidavit, Ganzon's children claimed they heared Rona over the radio saying, "Ang doktor ang nag-rekomendar nga ipa-dialysis ko si Papa, pero I know mapalawig lang ini sang iya pag-antos.... So, nag desider ako subong nga gab-i.

During the radio interview, when asked by the anchorman if the late senator is already clinically dead, Rona added, "Indi, conscious pa siya ah, grabe iya mind - grabe as in recognize still and gapangalot pa siya gihapon - naga ano -indi siling nga daw ano niya - ga coma - wala eh!"

According to Ganzon's children, they were not consulted by Rona and Portigo. They had wanted their father to undergo dialysis, they said.

On Oct. 27, Marigold Ganzon Lapascua said she called up Portigo, expressing their desire for their father to undergo dialysis.

But Portigo, according to the complaint, made a stand that he recognizes Rona as Ganzon's legal wife and that since she signed a document saying she's not in favor of the dialysis, her signature prevails over the Ganzon children's decision.

"As a result of the respondents deliberate refusal to administer dialysis treatment to our father, the late Sen. Rodolfo Ganzon finally died on Oct. 29, 2003," the complaint added.
