No more 'dry run' this December: mayor By Ronilo Ladrido Pamonag
ILOILO City Mayor Jerry Treņas Friday ruled out the possibility of any dry run or traffic experimentation this December.
"It will have to be January (2004)," the mayor said, two days after the City Council gave him almost a month and a half to conduct traffic experimentations.
Treņas explained that traffic volume at this time is usually high.
"As we all know, traffic during December is really tremendous," he said, noting that almost everybody is also quite busy for the holidays.
City Hall officials, along with transport groups, have already drafted a traffic scheme, he said. However, this is still being presented to other transport groups for their feedback.
"We already have one traffic scheme. But as I have said earlier, it is still being consulted with Fida (Federation of Iloilo Drivers Association), and other transport groups so that we will really be clarified on what traffic schemes we still need to try," he said.
But it will not be this December, he remarked.
Since early last month, when the Council authorized him to the conduct traffic experimentations, the mayor has only conducted one dry run - the two-day dry run last November 6 and 7.
Though there were plans to hold another round of dry runs or traffic experimentations, these were shelved due to lack of time and preparation.
After he requested several members of the Council for an extension, the Council gave him until January 30 for traffic experimentations.
At the same time, the Council decided to stay the enforcement of the perimeter ordinance indefinitely until all the conditions for its successful enforcement are met.
