Defensor not surprised with Palmares' nomination By Jay Dooma Balnig
THIRD District Rep. Arthur Defensor is not suprised with the appointment of Passi City Mayor Jesry Palmares as chairman of Lakas-CMD in the 4th District of Iloilo.
Defensor, the ruling party's provincial chairman, said such development is an expected consequence of Palmares' nomination as Lakas-CMD's official candidate in the 4th District congressional race.
That is, even if Palmares is not supporting Lakas-CMD gubernatorial candidate 1st District Rep. Oscar Garin. Palmares is backing reelectionist Gov. Niel Tupas Sr.
Defensor and other Lakas-CMD provincial officials earlier warned to impose sanctions on Palmares for supporting Tupas but he insisted on joining the governor.
Defensor admitted that Palmares and President Arroyo are indeed "close" and that their personal ties date back during the time when Arroyo was still a senator.
Palmares' opponent in the congressional race, Dr. Ferjenil Biron, already joined Lakas-CMD. Biron declared support for Garin.
Palmares arrived from Manila last Tuesday bringing along with him his nomination and those for the mayors in the 4th District.
