Lawyer challenging Suplico in 5th district
By Ruby P. Silubrico

LAWYER Ariel Manipula of Concepcion town will challenge Rep. Rolex Suplico in the fifth district congressional race.

Manipula, who is running under the ruling Lakas-CMD, filed his certificate of candidacy (CoC) before the Commission on Election (Comelec) regional office Monday afternoon.

An immigration lawyer, he said he is willing to serve the people of the 5th District.

Manipula, who also ran for board member in the last elections, is reportedly being supported by seven mayors - Concepcion Mayor Raul Ba¤as, Carles Mayor Felipe Bernal, Balasan Mayor Simeon Ganzon, Estancia Mayor Rene Cordero, Lemery Mayor Lowel Arban, Ajuy Mayor Jett Rojas and Batad Mayor Pedro Alarcon.

Those who did not signify their support for Manipula are San Rafael Mayor Ronie Belasico, San Dionisio Mayor Pio Villanueva, Sara Mayor Nepthali Salcedo and Barotac Viejo Mayor Raul "Boboy" Tupas, who is Suplico's cousin.

The seven mayors are reportedly disgusted of Suplico's performance especially on his supposed failure to develop the roads from Sara to Estancia.

OPPONENT WELCOME

Meanwhile, Suplico welcomed Manipula's challenge, saying it would be the people of the 5th District who will decide on the best candidate.

However, Suplico said two mayors who are being reported to be supporting Manipula called him up yesterday to deny the report. He did not name them.
