Suspects in Padol slay used 'special' bullets: Lebaquin By Ruby P. Silubrico
* Task Force Waterfront police have yet to arrest suspects
* Chief Insp. Marlon Tayaba, CIDG deputy director, says he will personally arrest "Boy" Bawe if there is enough evidence against him
THE suspects who shot murder witness Rudy Chris "Padol" Balidiong dead used "special" bullets, the autopsy findings of Dr. Owen Lebaquin, medico-legal officer of Police Regional Office (PRO) 6, showed.
Lebaquin said a special hollow point bullet of a .45 caliber pistol, which hit Balidiong on the back caused his death. His other fatal wounds are on his stomach and head.
The assailants also used a full metal bullet of a .45 caliber pistol on the victim's head.
Balidiong was shot dead by two unidentified suspects while he was eating in a carenderia at the waterfront area around 11 a.m. last Thursday.
He died two hours later at the Iloilo St. Paul's Hospital.
No arrest yet
But four days into the killing, the Task Force Waterfront, headed by Senior Supt. Felix Muchada, has yet to arrest a suspect.
The Balidiongs earlier sought the assistance of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in seeking justice for the death of their kin.
Along with witnesses, they are pointing to Greg Espinosa, Richard Gardose and Lowell "Boy" Bawe, an asset of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), as those behind the killing.
In radio inteviews, Both Gardose and Bawe denied involvement. Espinosa has yet to surface.
Balidiong testified against Espinosa, who is facing homicide charges for allegedly killing eight-year-old Kevin "Wowie" Apolinario in December 2002.
Surrender
Gardose surrendered to Tacas village head Kimmy Locsin Thursday afternoon to clear his name, he said. He also submitted himself to a paraffin test.
Bawe also turned himself in to the CIDG, claiming he was in Barangay Agcuyawan in Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo when Balidiong was killed.
Chief Insp. Marlon Tayaba, CIDG deputy director, said he will personally arrest Bawe if there is enough evidence against him.
He admitted that Bawe is their asset but said that his other "activities or involvement is already outside of (CIDG's) jurisdiction."
"We are not tolerating this. If he is among the suspects, he will face it," Tayaba said.
