Miagao gets P1.5M aid from British Consulate
THE municipality of Miagao has received P1.5 million financial assistance from the British Consulate to boost its Hablon industry.
This was disclosed by Mayor Gerardo Flores as British Ambassador Paul Dimon visits Miagao today to grace the towns' celebration of its 288th founding anniversary and Salakayan festival 2004.
Dimon's official visit aims to promote goodwill among the Ilonggos.
He will watch the highly-acclaimed Salakayan, a presentation on the shorelines of Miagao, where the actual "salakay" will be performed through a dance drama by the University of the Philippines in the Visayas students.
He will also visit places of interest particularly the world famous Miagao Church and the Hablon factory in barangay Indag-an.
The Hablon industry is one of the projects that attained momentum under Flores's administration. It has become a favorite among designers in Iloilo and Manila and during the Department of Tourism's WOW Philippines promotion in Intramuros.
Nono Palmos, one of Manila's famous designers, presented a fashion show using the Hablon in last year's Salakayan festival. He is coming back this time to promote his Hablon-made gowns to be worn by the candidates in the search for Ms. Salakayan.
