Garces tops 5K Run, Duathlon Challenge

* Abraham Garces receives P2,000 cash, a trophy and a jersey for winning the 5K Run Men's category

* For the topping the Duathlon Challenge Open category, he goes home with another trophy and P2,500 cash



ABRAHAM Garces topped the 1st Duathlon Challenge and Iloilo 5K Run held in Iloilo City recently.

Garces received P2,000 cash, a trophy and a jersey for winning the 5K Run Men's category.

For the topping the Duathlon Challenge Open category, he went home with another trophy and P2,500 cash.

Duathlon is a dual sport race against time and other competitors, completing a two-sport event--running and biking.

5K run

Tailing Garces in the 5K Run were Benjie Maglungan, second, P1,500; and Libenato Campos, third, P1,000.

In the Women's category, Maigen Campos took home the top plum, with a trophy and P2,000. Hanny Jean and Emelyn Gestopa placed second and third and received P1,500 and P1,000, respectively.

Duathlon

In the Open category, Jonathan Umbac was second, P2,000, while Joey Braga, third, P1,500.

Michael Borja topped the Senior Sport Category and received P1,500 cash. He was followed by Jeremiah de Jose, second, P1,000; and Felino Javier, third, P750.

Winners in both categories received trophies as well.

In the Veterans category, winner was Nonato Giovani who received P1,000 cash. Nonato Estollo and Jonathan Tahumar placed second and third and received P700 and P500 cash, respectively. They also received plaques and singlets.

Alexandra Ganzon topped the Women's category and got P750 cash while Mylene Hupeda and Luvluv Casidsid, who placed second and third, respectively, received P500 and P300 each. They also got trophies and plaques.

In the Executive category, first placer was Eddie Fernandez, P700; second, Isidro Slapulaza, P500; and third, Jose Albert Ng, P300. They received trophies and singlets as well.

Ian John de la Peña, who ruled the Beginners category, received P700 cash. He was followed by Rowell Dalisay,P500; and Jack Ilanga, P300. They also received plaques.

The event was organized by Globe, Gaisano City and Professional Sports Organizer Team Inc. headed by Senen (not Seven as earlier stated) "Boyet" Rentoy in cooperation with the Iloilo City Government.
