Lasangue: We will not stop running after rebels
By Ruby P. Silubrico

THE Philippine Army's Task Force Panay, headed by Col. Leo Fojas, continue to conduct manhunt operation after the New People's Army (NPA) following an encounter Tuesday afternoon in Dumarao, Capiz.

"Our soldiers are now conducting massive operations against Ka Reagan's group and we will not stop our running after them," Maj. Oscar Lasangue, Task Force Panay spokesperson, said.

Task Force Panay scout rangers led by 1st Lt. Manolito Belliza of the 33rd Reconnaissance Company encountered the team of Romulo Gangoso, alias Ka Reagan, head of the NPA's Eastern Front Committee, in the mountain area of Barangay Bugsuan at around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Lasangue said that during the firefight, government troopers saw Ka Reagan leading the rebels.

The encounter, which lasted for about 30 minutes, claimed the life of an NPA rebel, not two as earlier reported, who remains unidentified as of press time.

The other one, Erlen Parino, was only wounded but pretended to be dead, Lasangue said.

Parino, who is confined at Western Visayas Medical Center in Iloilo City, is now out of danger, he added.

The military provided clothes for Parino, who has been with Ka Reagan's group for more than two years.

The wounded soldier was identified as Private First Class Charlie Palomado, 27, a resident of Barotac Nuevo, who was hit on his right arm.

He is still confined at St. Paul's Hospital in Iloilo City.
