THE Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) activated its detachment in Barangay Tambal, Janiuay in wake of the series of violent incidents in the village.

We have activated the detachment since Wednesday night, Senior Supt. Reynaldo Rafal, provincial police director, said.

Rafal said he deployed police officers from the 2nd Mobile Group based in Jibolo, Janiuay and the Janiuay Police Station to secure the place.

The detachment is under the supervision of Janiuay police chief, Chief Insp Eugenio Espejo.

"Though we lack personnel, we activated the detachment to avoid further incidents," Rafal said.

Mum on suspects

Meanwhile, Rafal refused to name the suspects who fired their guns in Tambal last Tuesday night, which created a disturbance in the neighborhood.

"We are still conducting manhunt operations so we can't reveal their identities yet," he said.

He said, however, the incident was not election-related but came about because of a land dispute.

There were already two residents who were killed months ago because of alleged land disputes.

They are also considering the involvement of New People's Army, he said.

With the activation of the detachment, Rafal assured the villagers peace and order would be maintained in the area.

Last Tuesday night, after gunshots were heard, police recovered 71 shells and seven live ammunition of M14 and two magazines of M14.
