Sarabia, Facultad vie for FPJ's attention

* Vice Mayor Victor Facultad supervises the physical arrangement for KNP's rally at the Freedom Grandstand Saturday night

WHETHER it would be Councilor Ma. Rita Bascos-Sarabia or Vice Mayor Victor Facultad who will be proclaimed by opposition presidential candidate Fernando Poe Jr. as the Koalisyon ng Nagkakaisang Pilipino's (KNP) official mayoral candidate in Iloilo City would be known Friday night.

While Sarabia was with Poe during his sortie Thursday afternoon in southern Iloilo, Facultad and his runningmate, Councilor Joshua Alim, were at the Freedom Grandstand in Iloilo City supervising the physical arrangement for the grand rally at 6 p.m.

Despite that, Sarabia is still optimistic she would get Poe's final endorsement.

"I'll be there (at the stage) beside FPJ," she said.

Earlier, Sarabia, the mayoral candidate of Puwersa ng Masang Pilipino (PMP), called Facultad a "political butterfly" for claiming that he already replaced Sarabia as the official candidate of the Poe camp.

She added that Facultad and also tried to endear themselves to President Arroyo when she visits Iloilo and even to Sen. Panfilo Lacson, also an opposition presidential candidate.

Sarabia also brushed aside Facultad's claim that he is now KNP's official mayoral bet.

It was PMP president Horacio "Boy" Morales who declared her as Poe's official mayoral candidate, she said, adding that her endorsement is supported by evidence -- a certificate of nomination.

During Friday night's rally, Poe will be joined by his vice presidential candidate Sen. Loren Legarda and their senatorial aspirants.

Also expected also to attend the rally are council seat aspirants Fraulin Peñasales, Junior Aaron, Ed Pama, Alvin Dennis Arabang, Edgar Gimotea, lawyer Dan Cartagena, Ely Estante, Ramon Cua-Locsin and Eugenio Original.
