Suplico: Northern Iloilo road construction to start shortly

FIFTH District Rep. Rolex Suplico said Wednesday that the P381-million Ajuy-Pania-an, Estancia Road project is expected to begin soon with the concurrence of the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) for its implementation.

Suplico said he was informed last March 24 by Floro Adviento, manager of the JBIC office based in Makati City, that JBIC already concurred with the resolution of an award in favor of contractor EC De Luna Const. Corp.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) resolution dated Feb. 9 recommends the awarding of contract to the contractor for the "Implementation of Civil Works for CP 3, Iloilo East Coast-Capiz Road (Iloilo East Coast Improvement Project under the Arterial Road Links Development Project (Phase V)."

"I nearly cried with joy, knowing that this vital road project, which I started (to push) in 1998 when I became congressman, will soon become a reality," Suplico said in a statement.

"This means that the construction of a 25-kilometer road starting in Pani-an, Estancia and ending in Poblacion, Ajuy will start soon."

The congressman said he discussed the EC De Luna Const. Corp. the construction schedule with officials of both the DPWH and. "Their answer was as soon as possible," he said.

He added that the contractor would send its engineers soon to look for quarry sources and berthing facilities for the transport of their heavy equipment.

"Thereafter, De Luna will decide where to locate its offices and that of the consultant, Pacific Consultants International (PCI), which prepared the road design. Two places are being presently considered, Batad and Ajuy," Suplico said.

The construction will be financed by a loan extended by the JBIC under the Loan Agreement PH-P217 included in the 24th Yen Loan Package.
